Monica works on the birds in stages and several different firings. Each shape must be cut by hand, then the rough edges polished to a smooth finish. The winds are done separately and then fused together in the last step of the process.

Monica's Birds
Monica is from Peru. Her designs speak of her culture. The shape, the color, the simplicity all remind us of the bright joyous colors that can be in South American art. The birds are very labor intensive, as there is much cutting, and pieces are done separately. Then back to the studio to grind and polish each bird carefully. There is a great deal of work in each bird. Monica has made a mobile and plant stickers with her colorful birds. I think she will do very well with them.
