George Rodrigue is a successful artist who choses to give back to his community, city and state...but most of all children. His Youth Development Through The Arts supports art education across the state of Louisiana. It advocates the importance of visual arts in the development of youth. The foundation supports research that shows shows personal growth benefits from creative expression. The foundation believes that integrating art into the school curriculum provides students with the self confidence and skills needed for success in all areas of life. The Rodrigue foundation supports a variety of art educational programs:
Education manuals and workshops for Educators based on the art of George Rodrigue.
* George's Art Closet
Art supplies for schools in need
*Scholarships
College scholarships for art contest winners
Students who win art contest for seniors receive a degree to any university in any field.
The Art Founation also offers an opportunity for other non-pofits to raise fund by allowing them to purchase a signed silkscreen print for $500. These prints typically raise thousands of dollars at charity events.
I took this photo inside the foundation reflection out to Magazine Street It has a bit of the ghost feeling of loup garou (Blue Dog) I think. |

I would like to thank Mandy for explaining all the wonderful benefits and goals of the Rodrigue Foundation. She was very generous with her time and enthusiastic about how art helps children in school and in their lives. And though I have yet to meet George Rodrigue I would like to thank him for what he is doing for children through supporting art education. Though many people may achieve success in life they do not always choose to give back and George Rodrigue has chosen to do much good. We take from the community and world that shapes us, giving back helps others to succeed and helps to seed a new generation. If we could all choose to give back in our towns and villages across the world think of ripples of the pond...as one good deed is done, the another and another and another......
