Akira Satake

There are so many wonderful potters and so many different styles.  This is just one potter I happened to love and thought I would introduce him to you in our New Artist Series. A new artist as related to this series, is someone new to me or you.  They may be young, old, just starting or career artist.

Akira Satake
Akira the musician
Akira works in the Asheville, North Carolina area. The Blue Ridge mountains draw potters, weavers, and craftsmen of all kinds to them.  The mountains have a rich history of pottery.  Clay was plentiful and firing outdoors more reasonable in a cooler environ.  Akira's work is unique, sensitive yet earthy.  I have always loved Japanese pottery and art.  Akira's heritage(born in Osaka, Japan) and adherence to Japanese techniques and glazes makes his art so incredibly rich and creative.
I recently learned Akira is also an accomplished banjo player and has played his music at many venues.  So I share this artist with you and encourage you to get to know him better.  Click on his name at the top of the page and it will connect you with more information about the artist and musician.  Enjoy
