Albert Einstein on Art

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.
Albert Einstein

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
Albert Einstein

True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist.

For me art and science are complimentary partners as music and math are to each other.  My Mother was a science teacher and her interest in discovery and experimentation were the foundation of my interest in the arts.  I think Einstein understood that partnership better than any scientist before or after him.  He knew his brilliance was bound up in creative intelligence. My favorite quote by Einstein is "Creativity is more important than knowledge".My Mother also told me what we consider knowledge is can change.  Her example was her high school text that declared the atom could never be split-that was fact.  Of course now we know it can be, hence the atomic bomb.  We also know the earth is not flat, and the there are things faster than the speed of light.  So the artist and the scientist understand that facts change, knowledge changes, but creative thinking and discovery lead us to new knowledge. And that alone is why we should have art in the schools and support artists in our civilization.  The Medici's had it right-support the artists of your time! your world will be richer for it!
