How does Color effect our perception and the lack of it?

All the photo's were taken on the same day at the same time, but the use of color or the lack of it effects one's perception of time, mood, and attention to details.  The black and white photo's could have been taken in the 1920's for they have the look of an old postcard, while the  color photographs make one think of the present.  The sun is shining and the tropical plants are lush with color.  I recently watched a movie in which a filter was used to darken or grey- out the scenes to make them more bland and depressing to carry the mood of the film. There are many studies on the use and psychology of color that are very interesting...but I am not sure about the lack of color.  I do know it throws us back to an earlier time, a more nostalgic time.

The hotel was originally built for the wealthy celebrities who would escape the cold Northern winters and escape to New Port Richy, stopping over in St. Pete on their way.  It boast it own resident ghost who was called Major Domo, a perfectionist manager who ruled with iron fist. The hotels old charm still enamors visitors of today in its own funky way.
