The Wold of Glass Fusion

Here you see my classmate and friend Monica's woven glass piece set in a mold to form. Before this step are several more. Each piece has to be hand cute and put in a mold for the long sections twice and the woven together and then fired at this stage to form a bowl shape. Monica was experimenting with what we call stringers, which are small strands of glass. They proved to be very delicate, breaking at points, but still a very nice design. The studio we work in for glass is part of an art program offered by the city of Tampa. The program is reasonable and quality teachers are offered. It is a unique program for a city recreation department to do and one that needs to be expanded over the city and modeled for other areas.
