LOOK AT COMMUNITIES WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE USING ART AS A WAY TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF OTHERS
As a life long art educator and artist I find it amazing to look at how art can make such a huge difference in the lives of ordinary people and communities. This is one that is dear to my heart, as I spent half my teaching career working with disabled students.
So lets honor of few of these wonderful programs who seek to do good in the name of art.
Chicago: Projection Onward Chicago(click for link)
This program was formed to support the creative
growth of mentally and developmentally
disabled people. This program provides studio space
art supplies, and professional guidance to emerging
artists in a communal workshop environment.
St. Petersburg: Creative Clay(click for link)
This program was started with the hard work of two
two beginning social workers. The built it in to a
large, thriving organization for many years. Now
Creative Care(click for link), a part of creative clay, still
is in hospitals working with ill children with cancer
and other devastating conditions.
We will look at more cities and countries programs that are making a difference in people lives through the week.
