Early Girl Eatery/Asheville, North Carolina

Early Girl Eatery

ART, FOOD, LOCAL FARMS, ORGANIC

When you put all those together you come up with Early Girl Eatery.
It is one of those special places where many magical things are all present that make it just wonderful. Asheville is a town of many great restaurants, all vying for the wide range of people who visit. There are tourist up for the fall leaves, families getting together for Thanksgiving, and the everyday business person wanting a great meal.
I had crusted mashed potato cakes with a creamy tomato gravy, thick bacon, and hot biscuits just out of the oven. I was trying to decide between that and fresh raspberry banana pancakes, a very difficult choice.

But of course for an artist, the ambiance is also wonderful. There are local potters work on the tables for salt, pepper and sugar. There are local artists work on every wall. It is a place where an artist feels at home. Asheville is full of so many talented artists that the table doodles hung in the hallway look like a gallery!

I highly recommend this restaurant and make sure it is on my list for every visit.
When you come to Asheville it is a place you don't want to miss, just like Malaprop's (a wonderful independent book store).

Singapore

Singapore Hello to you!
I spent one Christmas in Singapore, in my twenties, a long way from home. I remember thinking about my family and missing them and all the festivities of the holidays. I looked out across the city from my hotel room on a warm sunny day, it was hard to believe it was cold at home. Singapore is a beautiful city and takes such pride in its cleanliness. I had all these old Hollywood movies running in my head, that did not match the modern city I was experiencing. My brother recently went for an economic conference there and was very impressed with the city as well. So here is our nod to a great city and its arts.

I am listing the Singapore Art Museum website below. It looks like a wonderful museum. If you are interested in me listing other galleries or artist, please let me know.

Blue Spiral/Asheville

Blue Spiral Gallery/Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville is a center of fine crafts in the South Eastern United States. It is the host to the Highlands Crafts Fair which will be held starting October 20th. If you love arts and crafts this is a wonderful show with fine artist of great talent.
The Blue Spiral carries find crafts, but also supports painting, sculpture, printing and many other areas of art. There is always a discussion of where craft leaves off and fine art begins. It would be interesting to hear every one's opinion. I think carrying all arts makes the city stronger and attracts a wider audience of viewers.

Blue Spiral/Asheville

Blue Spiral Gallery is one of the largest in the South East. It three full floors of art. The gallery carries sculpture, paintings, mixed media, glass and pottery. The gallery carries a body of artist they represent and then integrate new artist and special shows. It is refreshing in a town of craft galleries and nature painting to find something different. It is one of my favorite stops when I am in Asheville. Here are some photo's to give you an idea of the huge amount of gallery space they have and the range of art they carry.
The mountains are a bit hard on internet connections and uploading. When I get to the low country, I will post more of the Blue Spiral Gallery and its current collection. Today is a leaving and driving day. Closing up, packing the car, getting Da Vinci set for the trip, and driving. I wish you all a good day and I will update more of the Asheville trip when I have better internet connections.

Art Walk

An art walk is a wonderful thing for everyone. It is a win win situation for artists, shops and restaurants, and the people in the community. If your area has not tried this idea, it is a good venue for artists to show their work in galleries, studios and other spaces. It brings people out who will spend money for drinks and food. It also builds a feeling of togetherness in a community. No matter how large or small your town is, you can definitely do this! Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Asheville Studio

Having a place to work and do your art is essential. This is my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. I love it there, the windows let nature in at every turn. There is something about nature that breeds creativity. I also have a studio here in Florida. I live in an old Victorian home. My studio here is on an old enclosed sleeping porch. I have had studio's many places, in small rooms, in a garage, on an open porch...you just need a corner to call your own, a place where you can leave things out, a place where you can surround yourself with the things that call out to you. Surround yourself with the things you love and soon things will just start to happen.
