JOSEPH CAVALIERI IS ON THE MOVE!

You may recall New York glass artist Joseph Cavalieri from my past blogs. As well as showing his work in galleries and museums, Joseph teaches, and has a few upcoming workshops on painting on glass classes here in the US and in Europe. Upcoming are two classes in Germany. The first is at Bild-Werk-Frauenau, a school nestled in the Bavarian Forrest, outside of Munich, Germany.( August 31-Septmember 9th).  Joseph taught a full group of students here in 2011 and has a few return students this year.  The location reminds him of a German version of Woodstock. Quiet, healthy: a perfect place to create. Following this class is a class at the new Berlin Glas. (September 9-22nd).
This is one of the first classes at this class center in the middle of Berlin.

Joseph Cavalieri Continues to Shine!

JOSEPH CAVALIERI          NEW WORKS

Joseph is one of our favorite artists who we art Rabbit's Moon Studio love to follow. We first met Joseph at Duncan McClellen's Glass Studio where he was guest artist. He is an energetic highly productive artists.  He is constantly exhibiting, making art, or teaching.  His work is wonderful and I have an idea his workshops are fantastic as well.  I can hardly wait to sign up myself, as I am always loving to explore new media and learn new techniques. I think when an artist is willing to do that there is constant growth in oneself and ones art! You owe yourself a treat, check out Joseph on his website, go see his work in a show, or sign up for a workshop.  I plan too!

New York Artist Joseph Cavalieri was asked to create new work for a gallery in New York.  The work is entitled "Motown to Def JAM2.  The show was curated by Sou L Eo.  It will take place in Harlem on June 11th(6-9pm).  The address is La Maison d'Art Private Gallery at 259 West 132 Street New York.  It will be part of the ArtCrawl.
Cavalieri named worked with the song Soulsville by Isaac Hayes for inspiration.
slums, ghetto and blac, belt, they are all one and the same. And I call it Soulsville.

This song represents a look at the portrait of a depressive inner city in the 1970's and ends with a glint of hope that God will put an end to all of this misery or so it says in the song.

BOSTON SHOW A MUST SEE!

IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN JOSEPH CAVALIERI'S WORK IT IS A TREAT!

Joseph is one of our favorite artist we have covered.  What he does with stained glass and painting on glass is quite exceptional.  Check out this link to the Boston Society for Arts and Crafts where Joseph's work is showing. I love this series Joseph did as a nod to r. crumb, an artists artist.  It is amazing how Crumb's work shows up in many artists work, but the influence is lasting.
Joseph did a show in our area at Duncan McClellen's glass studio recently.  It was wonderfully attended and it contained a large range of his work.  It is a different approach to using stain glass, drawing and painting in innovative ways.  I think you would love this work, treat yourself and go take a peak!

Wonderful work, wonderful artist, and nice guy!

Some people are just good people, they are good, kind and humble.  Joseph Cavalieri is an very talented artist who is fascinating to talk to, down to Earth and extremely generous.
Joseph is also a very talented and energetic man.  His work is highly detailed and crafted.  There is an element of surprise to every piece.  It is almost art come alive, for the light of the glass and colors feel like a living thing.
Joseph Cavalieri's work is at times wonderfully humorous if not a bit
cheeky and serious with historyview from a modern touch

Meeting my cousin Lisa for the first time at Joseph's show! Lisa and her
husband are huge supporters of the Arts in our area.  Two of her sons are
artists themselves.  A community that invests in the arts has many champions.

R Crumb Influence is wonderful in these art pieces

encouraging and promoting.

A NIGHT OF ART, A SUPER NIGHT OF ART!

The Art Walk
The Glass Art of Steven Rolfe Powell

Stadium Seats to View Art!!!  That is Big!
You would think it was a rock star, but no, it is a glass star!!!  Steven Powell is a start in the glass blowing world and here he wows the crowd with his awesome talent.  I am trying to think when I ever saw stadium seats set up for the viewing of art. It is just so impressive there are almost no words.  If you doubt for one minute the power of art, the just look at these pictures. Now imagine what your community might do.  This was once a dream in Duncan Mc Clellen's mind...only a thought, only an idea.  But then with vision and leadership he made it a reality.  It is evidence of what one person can do, when they have passion and persistence.  Of course there are many others supporting and helping, many who have become partners along the way...but first there must be the spark that catches flame.  I am not sure how this community will ever thank Duncan for all he has done.  I hope you have a Duncan in your community or perhaps, with his example, you will become a leader of the arts.

Pack crowds, standing room only left!

NEW ARTIST SERIES

JOSEPH CAVALIERI

Stained Glass with a Sense of Humor
******************************************************
Bart Simpson on the Cross?

Comic Book Figures in Stained Glass?

R Crumb Glowing through the Windows?

YES! This is all the work of Joseph Cavalieri's stained glass art. Joseph started out as an advertising artist and layout director, but wanted to be his own boss and be more creative.  He had grown up in the Catholic Church and looked more at the glowing brightly colored windows than listened to mass! As I can well relate to as a child I sat in the long wooden pews of the Souther Baptist Church and drew my heart out!
Joseph thought at the time perhaps the windows were to keep one from looking out if bored by what was inside.
So he wanted his art work to glow, to be glowing posters and he decided to try the ancient art of stained glass, but he added a twist of his own.  He painted, he silk screened, he adding decals, and he fired it all.  Not all of his work is humorous, but all of his work is fascinating and takes stained glass to a fine arts level.  I think you will like this work as much as I do.  So treat you self and click on all the links to learn more.  Perhaps you might try your art in glass and see what happens...new media always challenges us as artists and helps us grow.  Enjoy!

Bart Simpson on the Cross  A bit sacrilegious perhaps, but with humor.  Cartoon Characters were used with Simpson Producers permission
by Joseph Cavalieri.   They actually have his work hanging in their corporate offices.
