Own an Original Bling Bling!

Dichroic  Glass

Unique

Elegant

Each Piece a Small Sculpture

These are examples, designs vary.  Each is an individual piece of art, by a fine
arts artist.  I approach this as fine art, sculpture, a work of art,  not as cookie cutter  mass
produced craft. These are not mass produced, but each as treated as its own individual canvas.

                                                                                                               FUSED GLASS

I am not happy with the concrete background surface, must experiment more

almost reminds one of a pea pod or a vegetation

Another wonderful week at the studio and a bounty of wonderful treasures mounting for the effort!
I have fallen in love with dichroic glass and glass fusion.  It is just so beautiful and unpredictable, but I have no want to control it-only to see where it will go and what it will do on its own.  It has its own personality like Raku, and a need to be its own master.  But that is what I love, is the unpredictability and the surprise.  I will never be the craftsmen first, I will always be the artist first...wanting to see what if.  If I do this what happens, if I overlap this what will the glass do, if I allow gaps how will the glass fill them and how will the heat effect the colors at a lower or higher temperature.  Look at what these past few weeks have produced!

The World of Glass Fusion continued...

Clicking on this will take you to a glass fusion org.

In the first photo you see some of the choices of dichroic glass. It is a very expensive glass to buy because of the production process. I will include a link for you to research the process if your are interested. Some of these designs almost seem holographic.

The photo's below are by one of my fellow classmates who love dichroic glass also. These have a black background that you can see when the pieces don't meet. The colors are so rich to the eye. I love the highly textured pieces, as well as, the gold. When one buys sample packs by the half pound you get what ever color or design they put in the pack. So sometimes it is what you want and other times not.

The examples below are another example of woven glass.

The photo below is Betsy W's work, one of three Betsy's in a small art class. Funny I went my whole life with never having another Betsy in my whole school, much less a small art class. Betsy is putting square sections together to meld in an almost abstract Joseph Albers' pattern for hanging in a window.

The three photo's below are the work and planning of my classmate and friend Monica. She has a detailed meticulous approach to her craft, and it shows beautifully in her work. Monica is from Peru and using many of the Incan designs in her art. I include a photograph of her planning pattern she creates to follow for the design. It shows the intricate careful planning she puts into her work. Artists work very differently in their planning and art processes. Some artists plan ahead and make models or drawings to follow, others research and think but work intuitively. I am the latter.

Continuation of New Work/Glass Fusion

Glass Fusion using dichroic glass.

Dichroic glass is that which has metal embedded onto the surface level. It is an expensive glass. Most artist use chips in a piece, but I love the richness of using all dichroic.

NEW Crop of Fused Glass/CROP II

This series of fused glass shows a variety of new combinations of dichroic glass with my collage approach of piecing sections of different kinds of glass.Blue black backed stripes, with purple bubbles and white ribbed chips.

This piece uses the tubes or sticks of dichroic glass. It gives a heavier linear look. It is all a matter of person preference of what appeals to a person. I just like playing with colors, shapes and texture.
Here is a group shot of the last grouping. They look delicious enough to eat like some wonderful candy don't they!
If you are doing fused glass necklaces remember to look for bales and cords to complete the necklace. They can be found locally sometimes and you can always order them on line. I have had very good luck with E6000 Glue.
